The short answer
Plan storage for the mower, its charging station and the installation separately. Fully charge the mower before switching it off, clean it using the approved method, and choose a dry, frost-free place. Identify the station model before disconnecting it: a NERA baseplate and station electronics are not the same storage item.
Applies toDomestic Husqvarna Automower models. The station example is specifically the 305E/310E NERA manual dated 16 March 2026. Other models and EPOS installations need their own instructions.
The most useful winter preparation is a clear record of what you have disconnected and where it belongs. This guide turns manufacturer guidance into a set of decisions you can work through before carrying anything into the shed.
01Choose the storage place before the last mow
A shed is only a suitable winter home if conditions inside it meet the mower’s requirements. Check for frost and damp rather than relying on the word “indoors”. Husqvarna’s temperature guidance lists 0–50°C for storage and 0–45°C for charging, while its winter guide calls for a dry, frost-free storage space. Your exact manual takes precedence.
Decide when to finish mowing from local conditions and grass growth. A mower’s operating temperature range is not a recommendation to drive it across a frosted lawn. Husqvarna notes that grass is particularly vulnerable to wear during frost.
The check
Can you identify a dry location that stays frost-free, with room to store the mower securely?
What did you find?
The chosen shed freezes
Next stepChoose another location or arrange dealer storage before the final shutdown.
The location is suitable
Next stepWrite it on your winter checklist, then check the battery instructions.
02Finish charging, then switch the mower off
The 305E/310E NERA manual instructs owners to charge fully before storage, switch the product OFF and clean it. Do not treat a parked mower as proof that it has been switched off.
Husqvarna’s general winter guidance says most models do not need charging during storage, but some older models need it every three months. Look up your model before creating a charging reminder. This is not a reason to leave every Automower connected to a charger all winter.
The check
Record the final charge date and the storage-charging instruction from your own manual.
What did you find?
The mower will not complete its normal charge
Next stepResolve the fault with the model’s troubleshooting guidance or dealer before putting it away.
Charging is complete and the manual is clear
Next stepSwitch off as instructed and continue with cleaning.
03Clean without assuming every mower can be hosed
Husqvarna prohibits high-pressure washing of the mower and station. Permission to use ordinary running water depends on the model, and the mower and its charging station can have different rules. For example, its cleaning guidance permits running water on a 310 Mark II mower but not its station; listed NERA models permit both.
Use the approved cleaning method, with the mower switched off and the station power disconnected before cleaning the station. Remove accumulated grass and inspect accessible parts for wear or damage. Wear protective gloves around blades. Our related cleaning guide below compares model families; use your manual for the complete procedure.
The check
Note any damaged part or charging contact that needs attention, instead of leaving the discovery until spring.

04Separate the NERA baseplate from the station top
For the 305E/310E NERA specifically, section 9.3 of the March 2026 manual allows the baseplate to stay outside while the station top and power supply go into dry, frost-free storage. It includes disconnection, removal of the cable grommet and closing a sealing lid. Follow the illustrated sequence; do not simply pull the top off.
That removable-top procedure is not a universal instruction for older stations. Husqvarna generally recommends indoor station storage. If a station must remain outside, its winter guide describes keeping power and boundary/guide wires connected with weather protection. Confirm that arrangement for your model before choosing it; it is a different plan from dismantling the station.
Store by component — 305E/310E NERA example
- 01Mower
Dry, frost-free storage after preparation.
- 02Station top
305E/310E NERA: store indoors with the power supply.
- 03Baseplate
305E/310E NERA: can remain outside.
- 04Connection record
Keep photos and labels for reassembly.
What did you find?
You have a 305E/310E NERA
Next stepUse the manual’s section 9.3 and retain the connection photograph for section 9.4 at reinstallation.
You have a different station
Next stepFind its storage instructions before removing screws, cables or covers.
05Label wires; preserve the EPOS reference position
Boundary and guide wires can remain in the ground. Label disconnected ends and protect their connectors using the manufacturer’s storage arrangement.
For EPOS installations, Husqvarna permits the reference station to stay outside with power connected. If taking it inside, keep its mounting arm in position so it can return to the original location. Moving the reference position can mean recreating the virtual boundaries.
The check
Photograph what is staying outside as well as what you are storing. A spring restart is easier when both sides of each connection are identifiable.

06Leave a short, useful handover to your spring self
Use this final record to expose unfinished work. It is an organisational checklist, not a substitute for the model’s storage procedure. Mark an item “pending” when you have not verified it.
- Model and manual: __________
- Final charge and shutdown completed on: __________
- Cleaning completed; repairs still needed: __________
- Mower location: __________
- Station parts and power supply location, or approved outdoor arrangement: __________
- Wire labels and EPOS reference position recorded: __________
- Storage charging required by this model? If yes, next date: __________
- Spring reminder: reconnect using the manual, check the schedule and inspect the installation before the first run.
07Worked case: a storage plan you can actually reverse
Illustrative scenario: a household can store the mower in a dry room, but plans to leave the station at the lawn. Write two decisions rather than one “put away” tick: where the mower goes, and which station arrangement the exact manual permits. If a NERA station is involved, identify the baseplate and top in the manual before treating them as separate storage items.
Create an inventory as parts move. Give each approved removable item a bag or shelf label and photograph the connections before disconnection. “Power supply: garage shelf B” is a useful entry; “all accessories stored” is hard to verify in spring. Do not put PIN codes, account passwords or precise home-location details on a public or shared record.
Leave pending work visible. For example, “charging completed; wheel resistance still needs assessment” is a more honest handover than a completed winter checklist with no exception. Keep model-specific storage charging instructions alongside the storage date. When restarting, use that record to restore the correct arrangement before testing normal operation.
